LANGUAGE: Luritja
REGION: warumpi (papunya), N.t.
Dulcie Kelly was born in Warumpi (Papunya) in the Northern Territory and now lives in the community at Watiyawanu (Mount Leibig).
Dulcie is the daughter of distinguished artist, Lily Kelly Napangardi. Dulcie began learning to paint in 1995 with her grandmother, who also taught her the landmarks and features of her country and the ceremonies associated with them. Dulcie was then taught the Tali (Sandhill) Dreaming story by her mother, sharing in their artistic vision of the vast sandhill country of their homelands around Mt Leibig and Haasts Bluff.
Dulcie has now developed her Dreaming into her own unique style. Dulcie’s daughter, Georgina Kelly, is also a talented emerging artist who paints a similar style, artistically mapping the important topographical features and rockholes of the Western Desert.
