Janet would sit and
watch her family members paint, learning the stories and Dreamings of her
country. Acquiring this knowledge, Janet now paints several different Dreaming
stories including Awelye (women’s ceremony and body paint designs), Bush
Medicine Leaves, Yam Dreaming and My Country. This
painting depicts a beloved bush tucker of bush tomatoes. Bush tomatoes are a
native source of sustenance, vitamin C and antioxidants. The shrub that is
endemic to the vast central desert regions and are easily recognizable by their
pale silver-green leaves and purple star-shaped flowers. Not only are they an
important food source, the roots of the bush tomato plant are also used for
medicinal purposes.
