Lynette Williams
Language: WARLPIRI
Region: WILLOWRA, N.T.
Lynette Williams Napanangka is a Warlpiri artist who lives between Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and her home of Willowra, a small community some 330km north-west. Lynette was taught to paint from the elders around her, and has successfully honed her own distinctive and textural style.
Using fine lines and the dotting technique that is characteristic of the Central and Western Desert movements, Lynette paints the bush seed, often used to make damper, a bread-like tucker. She composes concentric circles on the canvas to represent the waterholes around which the damper seed grows. Lynette often paints in a monochromatic palette of black and white, or yellow ochre and white. She is meticulous in her painting style, and takes great pride in representing aspects of her culture for others to enjoy.
