Glenys Gibson Napaltjarri was born in Papunya in the Northern Territory, some 300km west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). She lives with her husband and extended family in Wulungurru (Kintore). Glenys is a wonderfully talented artist from an extended family of renowned artists. She is the daughter of one of Australia’s most acclaimed painters, Ningura Napurrula. Like her mother before her, Glenys observed the memorable male artists who were founding members of the famous Papunya Tula Arts Co-Operative in the 1970s, however developed an artistic style that is reminiscent of Ningura and her other female relatives.
Glenys paints aspects of the renowned Seven Sisters Dreaming story, a vast songline that crosses the continent. There are many variations of this deeply significant story. Glenys’s paintings have a rich design composition, depicting the forms of the seven sisters using traditional dot and line work that is typical of the Western Desert art movement.
