BUSH PLUM

Like all sources of sustenance, particularly in the remote, arid regions of the continent, the Bush Plum is a highly prized and multi-purpose source of nutrients for Aboriginal people. Like the Bush Medicine style, many aspects of the Bush Plum and Bush Plum Dreaming are artistically represented, such as the growing sites of the plum and the pathways taken by women to collect it, or as a homage to the nutritious plant itself. The Bush Plum Dreaming as a painting style, using a dotting method and heavy paint application, was first popularised by famed Anmatyerre artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, which many of her relatives and artists from the Utopia region continuing to paint a similar design, often appreciated for its Impressionist-like, dreamy quality.
