Eric often paints aspects of the songlines and stories that pass through Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and the surrounding country, such as the Dingo Dreaming and Caterpillar Dreaming stories. In this painting, Eric depicts aspects of the
Dingo (sometimes called Wild Dog) Dreaming story that tracks from the Simpson
Desert through Ntaripe (Heavitree Gap) and details an epic battle
between an intruding stranger dog and Akngwelye, the local dingo who was
protecting his mate and pups. The prominent Mount Gillen that can be seen from
the Alice Springs township is said to be Akngwelye himself, standing
guard over his Country. There are several significant rock sites around
Mparntwe that are relevant to this story.
