In this painting, artist Alison Munti Riley has incorporated a more figurative and naïve style mixed with her dotting that maps the country. This painting tells the significant story of two men on a journey across country, who on their way, came across and killed a Mamu (devil spirit). In Alison’s own words, they “chopped the mamu in half”. After killing the spirit, they continued on their journey to find a waterhole to bathe in. When they were bathing, they generated a lot of mud. There was so much mud that they decided to create a large sculpted rock out of it, and this is what we know today as Uluru.
