Rebecca Jones is an emerging artist from the Utopia region in the Northern Territory. She is the daughter of acclaimed artist, Jeannie Mills. Jeannie’s mother is artist Dolly Mills and the niece of senior elder Greeny Purvis Petyarre. Rebecca’s artistic lineage is what inspires her to paint. Like her mother, Rebecca paints the pencil yam. The repetition of strokes is representative of the yam, while the white dots in between are the yam seeds (kame). The yam holds great nutritional and also spiritual value for the Alyawarre people.
