Tanya Bird b. 1981

Tanya is a talented artist who was taught Dreaming stories by her grandparents and parents, Eileen and Paddy Bird. Tanya comes from a long dynasty of artists, notably her grandmother, the renowned Ada Bird.

Tanya grew up watching her family paint and now continues this tradition. Tanya paints Bush Medicine, Bush Plum, and other women’s ceremonial designs such as Alweye (Women’s Body Paint Design). More recently, Tanya has started painting the bush medicine leaf in the style of the famous Gloria Petyarre, Tanya’s auntie. This style is distinguished by its broad, gestural brush strokes.
