LANGUAGE: WARLPIRI
REGION: YUENDUMU, N.T.
Glorine Martin was born at Wakurlpa Outstation, north-west of Yuendumu, an Indigenous community some 330km north-west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Glorine is the daughter of two renowned artists, Uni Nampijinpa Martin, and Samson Japaljarri Martin, a founding member of Warlukurlangu Artists, an Aboriginal-owned corporation established in 1985 in the remote community of Yuendumu, some 270km north-west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). She is the older sister of Andrea Nungarrayi Martin, also a renowned artist and Warlukurlangu arts worker.
Glorine is a proud Warlpiri woman, and like many Warlpiri artists, her painting style is one of precision and symmetry. There are many significant stories and Dreamings from her country - Glorine paints Bush Cabbage and Bush Onion Dreamings, detailing the importance of particular bush foods and the ceremony of women collecting and preparing the nutritious sources.
