This painting by Alison Munti Riley, depicts the Seven Sisters Dreaming (Rockholes) story, detailing the rockholes in and around the Musgrave & Peterman Ranges through which the Seven Sisters passed while trying to escape the 'bad man', Wati Nyiru. Wati Nyiru would hide in the rockholes and try to take one of the sisters as they drank and rested. The Seven Sisters Dreaming is an important and layered story comprising of many events each imbued with cultural meaning. Alison Munti Riley paints the section of this significant story that takes place on the ground, on her country, before the sisters turn themselves in to stars. There are many variations of this important story.
