Raelene paints several stories, including Whirly
Winds and Bush Damper Seed. Raelene paints in a bold, bright style that matches
her jovial personality. The bush damper seeds grow around waterholes and
soakages, on the tips of desert grasses. They are collected by women and ground
into a flour using a grinding stone. The flour is then mixed with water and put
on hot coals to make damper, a bread-like tucker.
Raelene typically works in
reduced palettes, creating striking works with high contrast. She uses the
repetition of a single dot to represent various flora, food sources and
geological aspects of her country.
