Celena Tunkin b. 1997
23 5/8 x 35 3/8 inches
Celena paints the
Minyma Malilu story from her home, Kanpi, in the expansive APY Lands of Central Australia. This is a “big story”, painted by many of Celena’s
relatives, about a spiritual ancestor woman Malilu, who dug a cave to be close
to and watch over her daughter, who had run away with a man of the wrong “skin”. Malilu’s cave
is still visited today as a site of significance, and is believed to have
spiritual healing powers.
