Selma Coulthard

Selma Coulthard was born in 1954 in Alice Springs but grew up at Tempe Downs until the Government removed her and placed her in a mission boarding home at Hermannsburg. She saw the Namatjira brothers painting in Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and around tourism camps such as Glen Helen and Palm Valley and it was here that her passion for art flourished.  Selma has a unique and detailed style that captures both the physical qualities of the land, such as the cracked earth, as well as the inseparable and ever-present spirituality of her country.  Selma is a proud Luritja woman and this is communicated through the intricate knowledge displayed in her artwork.
