Born in 1964, Debra Young is one of three sisters, being Katherine Marshall and Lorraine Nakamarra Young. Debra is a Pintupi woman and lives in the Aboriginal community of Kintore. Debra is the daughter of the famed Papunya Tula artists Walangkurra Napanangka and Johnny Yungut and has inherited her parents’ Dreamtime stories which she paints today. Her painting subjects are primarily My Country, Women’s Stories and My Mother’s Country (Tjintjintjin). Debra’s works capture the colour and texture of her country west of Alice Springs. They depict waterholes, rock outcrops and other defining geological features.
